Implicit Bias in the Legal Profession: How to Recognize and Mitigate it — 1.00 Tennessee General Credit

In this November 20, 2023, one-hour program Bruce L. Adelson, Esquire illustrates several cases in which implicit bias affected the courtroom and ultimately the jurors' conclusion at trial. Professor Adelson explains the scientific foundation which supports the theory that every human being is biased and how bias manifests itself. He provides strategies to work towards the goal of mitigating unconscious bias and improving inclusivity in the legal profession.

Mr. Adelson is CEO of Federal Compliance Consulting LLC, Potomac, Maryland, and serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Georgetown School of Medicine. A former senior attorney of the United States Department of Justice, he is the ADA Consultant to the Idaho Supreme Court and to the New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts.
